Your BMW expansion tank is an important part of the cooling system. It allows the coolant a place to expand and cool down. It is also an area that is under high pressure when your engine is operating. With age, this expansion tank can crack causing a coolant leak. We recommend replacing the expansion tank when installing a new radiator to ensure continued performance and service life of your BMW's cooling system.
Your vehicles expansion tank gives coolant a space to expand and contract as it goes through temperature changes. This tank is subjected to tremendous pressure and extreme heating and cooling cycles. This of course can cause cracks which result in coolant leaks. If your expansion tank is showing signs of leaks it must be replaced immediately.
